About Our Lavender
Lavender is a perennial and evergreen plant. The lavender on our farm is a French variety named Phenomenal™ (Lavandula x intermedia). Phenomenal™ was discovered in 2007 at Peace Tree Farm in Kintnersville, Pennsylvania. The plant’s flowers, leaves and essential oil are all used as natural medicines. Lavender can be taken orally as a supplement, often to treat anxiety, depression, insomnia, as well as physical pain, including headache and toothache. It is also used topically in lotions and creams for skin and hair treatments, as well as to treat wounds and pain. It’s often used as an aromatherapy tool for sleep problems, to improve mood and relieve stress. Lavender is brewed into teas and infusions, and used as an ingredient in recipes as well.
The Beginning
It began with a desire to find a sustainable way to use our family farm while preserving the land that has been a part of our family's story for generations. We wanted to create something that would allow us to spend more time outdoors doing work we enjoy, while also sharing the beauty of the farm with others.
From the beginning, our vision was about more than simply growing crops. We wanted to create a place where people could slow down, step away from the busyness of everyday life, and reconnect with nature. A place where families could make memories together, children could learn where things come from, and visitors could experience the simple joys that rural life has to offer.
As Dream Weavers Farm has grown and evolved, that vision has remained the same. Whether you are visiting to pick blueberries, explore our daylily gardens, purchase handcrafted products, or simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings, our hope is that you leave feeling refreshed, inspired, and a little more connected to the natural world.
The Present
Dream Weavers Farm has grown and changed over the years, and today the farm offers a mix of lavender products, blueberries, and daylilies.
Lavender was once the centerpiece of our farm, but growing lavender in southeastern Virginia proved to be more challenging than we ever anticipated. High humidity, heavy rainfall, and disease pressures made it increasingly difficult to maintain healthy plants. Despite years of effort and experimentation, we ultimately lost much of our lavender crop to these challenges.
While we are no longer actively growing large quantities of lavender, we have enough dried lavender harvested from previous seasons to continue creating many of our handcrafted lavender products for years to come.
We have also transitioned part of the farm to blueberries and now have more than 350 blueberry bushes. During May and early June, we offer both pre-picked and pick-your-own blueberries when the berries are in season.
In addition to lavender and blueberries, the farm is home to more than 300 varieties of daylilies. Our daylilies are sold as whole plants, also known as fans, rather than as cut flowers. Daylilies may be purchased by scheduling an appointment, preferably during June and July, when the flowers are in bloom and customers can see the different varieties before choosing what they would like.
The Future
Although our farm has evolved, our vision remains the same: to create a place that brings people closer to nature and allows them to experience the beauty and peace of rural life.
We will continue offering our handcrafted lavender products while our supply of dried lavender lasts, preserving a part of the farm's history that means so much to us. At the same time, we are committed to growing and expanding our blueberry operation and continuing to share our extensive collection of daylilies with fellow gardening enthusiasts.
We plan to continue offering both pre-picked and pick-your-own blueberries each season, while maintaining our collection of more than 300 daylily varieties and making plants available by appointment during peak bloom season.
We are also continually exploring new ways to share the beauty and peacefulness of our farm with others. Whether through seasonal events, educational opportunities, nature-based experiences, or simply creating a welcoming place to visit, we hope to provide opportunities for people to slow down, connect with nature, and enjoy all that farm life has to offer.
